The project adopts the EPC contracting model and the European Technical specification standard, with a total length of 169 kilometers (133 bridges and 2 tunnels) , divided into seven segments from M1 to M7. The expressway has two-way six-lane, runs through seven provinces, with a designed speed of 80 to 120 kilometers per hour.

It is the first large-scale overseas expressway project in China that is truly designed and constructed according to European (French) standards. Due to complex terrain, Poor Geology and widespread landslides, the project is the most difficult section of the East-West Expressway Construction, and is regarded as "Algerian engineering textbook" by the Algerian engineering community. At the same time, it is also the first African project in China to win the "Zhan Tianyou Award for civil engineering in China".
